The Rule of 3

The Rule of 3 was such an amazing YA read. It provides you with insight into what a world suddenly without high tech machinery could look like.  What captivated me the most to read this book was this:

“A person can last 3 minutes without air, 3 days without water, 3 weeks without food.  A community begins to die in just seconds.”

Such a juicy sentence, it made me imagine the kind of grittiness required to survive in a situation like that. Set in a not quite a zombie apocalypse, but still within the scary human desperation that occurs without the things that make life comfortable. We get to follow along on the journey of Adam and Herb and what they did to ensure that their community was protected during this time.

“One shocking afternoon, computers around the globe shut down in a viral catastrophe.  At sixteen-year-old Adam Daley’s high school, the problems at first seems to be a typical electrical outage, until the students discover the cell phones are down, municipal utilities are failing, and the only vehicles that function are a few ancient computer-free cars like Adam’s.   Driving home, Adam encounters a storm tide of anger and gear as the region becomes paralyzed.  Soon – as resources dwindle, crises mount, and chaos descends – he will see his suburban neighborhood band together for protection.  And  Adam will understand that having a police captain for a mother and a retired government spy living next door are not just the facts of his life but the keys  to survival.”Book Synopsis

This is the first book in the quadriology. The author did a great job explaining everything in detail, allowing the readers to visualize the setting and characters for themselves. I can guarantee that after you finish the first, the next three will be read within days of each other.
