Diagon Alley Comes to Calgary this Sunday

Grab your wands and have your wizarding robes ready as this Sunday, July 30th, all witches and wizards (and muggles) are welcome to the Kensington/Hillhurst-Sunnyside Community’s Second Annual Diagon Alley event.

Starting from 10 am until 5:30 pm, the event will be spread across 10 St. NW and Kensington Road. There will be various events taking place throughout the shopping district in between.

Almost 50 stores, restaurants and services will have their doors open to the Diagon Alley visitors, offering appropriately themed food, different kinds of butterbeer, activities, and decorations. Certain restaurants will also allow you to book a reservation ahead of time, so be sure to check that out!

A Quidditch game will take place at the Hillhurst-Sunnyside Community Association, located at 1320 5 Ave NW, and a costume contest will be held by Calgary’s Comic and Entertainment Expo.

Also, taking place at the Plaza Theatre, there will be a live reading of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone screenplay, along with a life-sized chess match in front of Orangetheory Fitness.

Admission is 100% free and it’s highly recommended that you take transit and get dropped off at Platform 9 ¾ (Sunnyside Station). City of Calgary Transit is offering a limited edition day pass to get to Diagon Alley for the day. Parking will be limited as the streets will be closed for the duration of the event.

A portion of the business proceeds from the event will be donated to J.K. Rowling’s Lumos Charity, which provides children with access to healthcare, education and social care.
