Three Green Juice Recipes for the Summer

Go Green!

When I was still a youngster, a man told me that if I wanted to be healthy I had to eat mostly greens. I believe he’s right. Green is known for being the colour of health and personifies life itself.

Ingredients such as spinach have become a must in juice recipes because of the multiple benefits they provide, such as vitamin A (good for your hair), vitamin K (good for your bones), vitamin C (maintains your collagen), calcium, and potassium (lowers your blood pressure).

I have tried multiple green juice recipes and whether you want to stay healthy or lose weight, these recipes below will serve you for either purpose! Here are the top three recipes that I enjoy the most and hopefully you will enjoy them as well!

1. The Mexican
  • 3 squeezed oranges
  • ¼ pineapple chunks
  • 1 slice of celery
  • ¼ prickly pear
  • ¼ parsley

Add water to achieve desired consistency.

This is one of my all time favourites! I used to drink it all the time after working out when I was still living in Mexico. The prickly pear is a very popular fruit in Mexico and it’s amazing for your health.

The pineapple in this juice is a key ingredient because it gives the beverage a really crisp taste and makes the drink not too sweet or too sour. This juice will leave you feeling refreshed, clean and craving more.

2. Smooth Green
  • ½ medium ripe avocado, peeled and pitted
  • 2 cups of spinach
  • 2 cups of pineapple chunks

Add water to achieve desired consistency.

For this recipe, feel free to add honey if you want it to taste sweeter. I recommend this juice for the variety of nutrients it provides, especially the avocado, which is considered a super food and contains high levels of potassium which helps you maintain electrical gradients in your body’s cells.

In addition to all of that, it can be very helpful when trying to lose weight. It reduces blood sugar spikes because of the avocado’s fibre content. Not to mention, avocados are also very smooth, which will give your beverage more of a smoothie feel, versus a juice.

3. Go Bananas
  • 1 cup of pineapple chunks
  • 1 banana
  • 1 apple
  • 2 cups of spinach

Add water to achieve desired consistency.

Spinach is important due to its high nutritional content but bananas are the key to making this a sweet juice. Bananas are famous for having high levels of potassium but they’re also a great source of fibre which helps to improve your digestive system. This is a great way to help reduce exercise related muscle cramps and soreness.

This recipe also contains pineapples, like the previous two, which is one of my favourite fruits because of its great taste and health benefits. It’s a great source of vitamin c, calcium, iron and treats and reduces the pain from tendinitis and other minor muscle injuries. Not to mention it gives your juices that amazing tropical flavour!

My personal recommendation is preparing your beverage in the morning and drinking them right away. This way your body is able to absorb all the nutrients and give you that boost of energy to start your day off strong. Often times people are scared to try juices that look too green but typically it’s the green juices that are the most beneficial for you. Don’t be scared to try out these recipes and then share with us what you think!
