Lazy Summer Reads: Percy Jackson and the Olympians

To start off this summer’s Lazy Reads series we’ll go with one of my childhood favorites, Percy Jackson and the Olympians!

A five book series, I devoured every book as soon as it came out. The Lightening Thief, the first in the series, does an amazing job pulling you into the world of Greek gods and heroes as you adventure alongside Percy Jackson and his friends.

“Twelve-year-old Percy Jackson is on the most dangerous quest of his life. With the help of a satyr and a daughter of Athena, Percy must journey across the United States to catch a thief who has stolen the original weapon of mass destruction — Zeus’ master bolt. Along the way, he must face a host of mythological enemies determined to stop him. Most of all, he must come to terms with a father he has never known, and an Oracle that has warned him of betrayal by a friend.” -Book Synopsis

Easily the type of book that you can read over and over again, I couldn’t think of a better companion as I lie outside and bask in the sun. Rick Riordan does an amazing job capturing his audience as he integrates ancient Greek myth into a modern world where gods and goddesses roam amongst us. A great way to spend a couple of hours relaxing this summer, but be warned, after reading one, you’ll probably want to finish the entire series before moving on!
